About Us
The Real Olive Company began life in 1993 in Cork’s English Market, when Toby Simmonds, aged 20, took a small stall at the Princes Street end of the market. The stall began with just ten varieties of olives and a few other Mediterranean foods. The Cork public were equally surprised and bemused by this addition to the market, and a common question was “what kinda grapes are ye selling?" However the arrival of the Olive Stall into the market coincided with a number of other stalls that were different from the traditional fare, including Iago and On The Pigs Back. The people of Cork and Ireland in general were opening up to an array of new foods and tastes allowing the Real Olive Company to grow.Later The Real Olive Company moved to a bigger corner stall towards the Grand Parade entrance, where it is today. In 1994, The Real Olive Company bought a battered fifteen year old Hiace van and set about bringing olives to the rest of the country. Over the years, The Real Olive Company has participated in over 35 markets nationwide from Belfast to Skibbereen. We continue to deliver all across Ireland to restaurants and shops, as well as selling at farmers markets in Cork, Limerick and Galway. The Real Olive Company imports products from suppliers around the Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on quality and diversity. We pride ourselves on being market leaders and originators of what are now often commonplace foods.Toons Bridge Dairy makes cheeses informed by the traditions of the Southern Mediterranean in their dairy in West Cork from their herd of water buffalo and local farmers' cows milk.Together they have the perfect combination of products that keep quality and value in the forefront for their customers.
